I love the tiny feet of my daughters - they're soft, round and perfect. Those little feet have so far to go, so many kilometers to travel. As individuals, our girls have such amazing adventures to embark on and I will do my best to never hold them back, remembering always that their lives and loves are their own to discover. I will guide them as best as I can, I will love them with all of my heart and I will encourage them to be the people they want to be.

Stop it now!

I really do try not to judge when I see Mothers disciplining their kids - no one else knows the circumstances behind a frazzled Mother's decision to trail her child behind her by its arm while it kicks and screams and froths at the mouth. The poor Mother probably needs some empathy - and a massive glass of wine!

However...

At 10h00 on Friday morning, heading from the doctor back towards the comfort of my big bed and my soft pillow, I stopped at Woolies to pick up some comfort food-for-the-flu and encountered a Mom who was really irritated with her daughter - there was no apparent reason for her irritation but she kept moaning at and threatening the child until eventually she pushed her out of the queue we were waiting in and told her to go and stand by the door until the groceries had been paid for. On the way back towards my car, I walked past this irate Mom, only to see the little girl sucking from a can of Coke she had just been given - at 10h00 in the morning - and I immediately thought "Well, there's your problem!". I wouldn't give either of my girls even a sip of Coke - at any time of the day, but then I remembered my little J popping a forbidden-but-found marshmallow into her mouth at around 7h30 that very morning - and I quickly reeled myself in :-)
