I love the tiny feet of my daughters - they're soft, round and perfect. Those little feet have so far to go, so many kilometers to travel. As individuals, our girls have such amazing adventures to embark on and I will do my best to never hold them back, remembering always that their lives and loves are their own to discover. I will guide them as best as I can, I will love them with all of my heart and I will encourage them to be the people they want to be.

Untravelled Soles

I love the way that one word, spelt differently, can mean something entirely different. I become more aware of this as E’s vocabulary increases and I find myself explaining why the lady who lost her son, actually lost her little boy and not the sun in the sky.

When looking for a name for my blog, I didn’t think it would be all that difficult until I found that everything I searched for was unavailable. Little smiles. Tiny fingers. Tiny toes. Tiny feet. Perfect feet. The more I searched the more creative the name became and the more I began to think about what it is that I am actually going to write about in this blog.

My two little girls are my shining stars. My favourite part of their bodies (besides their edible little bums, E's beautiful curly locks, J's sausage thighs) are their tiny, smooth and untravelled feet. I just adore their feet! They're perfect!* Those little feet have so far to go – E will learn to hop. She’ll kick balls, jump rope, ride her bicycle and eventually travel to faraway places. J has yet to take those first tentative steps and then she’ll be unstoppable. Untravelled** Soles.
In the same way that the soles of their feet are smooth, untouched and untravelled so are their little souls. They may have travelled far before entering this life. They may have already learnt so much, but as the people they now are, they are sweet innocents, clean slates, untravelled souls with so much to learn about life. E will return to school next week for the last term this year, at the end of which she will have to say goodbye, for the very first time, to friends she has grown to love as they head off to big school. J will experience the frustrations of trying to communicate without words, and the joy of making those around her laugh. Untravelled Souls.
They chose us to be their parents and it's up to us to nurture, teach and love them. To bring them up in the way we see best. To teach them all we can about being good, honest, kind, ambitious people and then to let them fly in their own directions.

And so, my blog will probably be predominantly about our children, however in searching for the name I feel that I’m also a bit of an Untravelled Soul – but I’m hoping that by exploring and writing down my own thoughts that I’ll maybe learn a little more about myself – about what I want to do and where I want to go…..

Let the fun begin...
* Those little feet might not have been so perfect if the girl's had inherited all of their Dad’s genes, and based on how many people comment on how much they look like S I believe that they did get all of his genes - except the toe! ;)
** not having travelled, esp. to distant places; not having gained experience by travel.
