I love the tiny feet of my daughters - they're soft, round and perfect. Those little feet have so far to go, so many kilometers to travel. As individuals, our girls have such amazing adventures to embark on and I will do my best to never hold them back, remembering always that their lives and loves are their own to discover. I will guide them as best as I can, I will love them with all of my heart and I will encourage them to be the people they want to be.

There are so many things I feel like writing about right now but instead of creating lots of new posts, I am going to combine all of my thoughts here, in no particular order, and call them my ramblings...
Summer is definitely here and I had no issues at all with last week's heat wave, in fact, I say "BRING IT ON!". However, hand in hand with Summer, dance Jozi's thunderstorms. I'm not as keen on them as I used to be - and this would be why...

I'll have to dedicate a separate post to the story behind this destruction!
It's only 6 weeks until the office closes and then I have just over 3 weeks of glorious, sun-kissed (hopefully) days to indulge in. This means loads of time to spend with S and the kids; swimming; pottering around the garden; taking afternoon naps; evening braais and lazy morning lie-ins. This year we're staying in Jozi for most of the time. I don't mind, Jozi is gorgeous in Dec/Jan but I am going to miss CT terribly. I'm yearning for the sight and the smell of the ocean, the wind and the view of the mountain. I generally don't feel that I've had a real break unless I've been to the Coast, but I'm going to have to just suck it up this year! Fortunately my Mom recently won a weekend for two to the Natal Coast and I'm the lucky one she has chosen to take with her - so in January 2012 I'll get to take great big gulps of the ocean vibe - and those will just have to sustain me for a while! I am hoping that we'll be able to spend this Christmas with my family in Pietermaritzburg. I haven't seen my Dad much this year, and the last time we spent Christmas with him, J was still happily hiding away in my tummy!
Cherries are in season - along with all the other sweetly delicious fruits. Don't these cherries just look gorgeous! Unless you're sitting in your car and have a sudden craving for cherries, don't buy them from the dudes at the robots - they charge R30 for a punnet, compared to R19 in the fruit and veggie shops!

I seem to have stopped running. Not happy about that at all, and neither is my body which seems to be expanding daily. I just can't seem to get out of bed early enough. Instead I hang on to the extra 15 minutes of sleep I lose out on when I do get up for a run. I'm supposed to be walking 19km with J's teacher this weekend...ummmm...whatever!! Don't get me wrong, I really want to, I'm just not sure she won't have to stick out a finger to stop a taxi, throw me into it and ask the driver to get me home!

My boss is going on maternity leave in about 15 days time and I can't wait to meet her little munchkin! Life in the office for the duration of her leave is going to be, well, interesting! But I'm up for the challenge - or I will be, come 9 January.
Today I feel discombobulated. I love that word, but feeling discombobulated isn't the greatest feeling! I've always loved words, I'm not all that good with them but one thing I have always been able to do is spell them correctly - oops, hpe their r no speling mestakes here! Remember the Spelling Bee kids at school? Well, I was one of them. E loves words too (she certainly never seems to run out of them!) and has always had a really good grasp of the English language. Right now her favourite word seems to be deciduous. Every so often, she will point to a word in the dictionary and ask me what it means and then she'll use it when she can. At the moment we're on mandrake - so she's been adding deadly mandrake to her magic potions!!

Part of what may be contributing to my discombobulation today is that E has started coughing again. We're back on the auto sanguis therapy and she's been cough free for 5 weeks. It's been a good run so I shouldn't complain...
For a while now I've been walking around with the proverbial chip on my shoulder. It became pretty heavy and so a few weeks ago I managed to get rid of it. It's a long story but let's just say that when you do let go of baggage, it's amazing what comes around to replace it, and this time it's been in the form of private schooling for my girls. E is no. 7 on the waiting list for Grade 1 at Curro Aurora, which means she will more than likely get in - and so will J, and then my little girls will receive the gift of private education.
Christmas is around the corner and I think I may have discovered the perfect Christmas gift... Cappuccino flavoured wafer sticks (I think they're from Clicks). They are deeeelicious and terribly more-ish, and the reason they're perfect is because you can give them to someone you really like, and they're bound to like you back - or, you can give them to someone you really don't like because they're skinnier than you - but won't be for long ;-)

Fun times and holidays ahead...

  2. Dear Gwen,

Hope this mail finds you well.

We are writing to you to let you know about how much we love your blog and that we really appreciate what you are doing for the parenting community. We would also love to take this opportunity to let you know about this great initiative that you might want to participate in and share with your friends, family and loved ones.

Dettol is trying to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital Trust, which is an initiative to upgrade medical wards B1 and B2 at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. We are also trying to open up a platform for young mothers to share their knowledge on parenting and good childcare (ranging from infants to toddlers and to teenagers). We will be doing this through the launch of a new South African website for Dettol, as well as utilize social media platforms through an official Facebook page where will be featuring a Q&A section for mothers to communicate and exchange information with regards to parenting news and healthy childcare. We would like to get many mothers, like you, involved and come together to push this fabulous idea.

All of us at Dettol believe that you would be a great brand ambassador as you have a fantastic and insightful parenting blog. We believe you have a great influence on bringing mothers who really care about healthcare together, and that your blog may help us raise the correct awareness of what Dettol is trying to do in the parenting community. We would like to take this opportunity to ask you if we would be able to advertise our mission on your blog? You would be able to do so by letting us advertise via banners that will lead to our website and Facebook page on your blog space and in return we would be able to post direct links to your blog on our Facebook wall. This way your blog and our initiative will gain positive exposure online and gain great status which will help us achieve our good parenting goals and inform others of our great initiative.

Keep up the fantastic work! We are looking forward to hear from you.

    Waiting in anticipation.

    Yours sincerely,
    NXT\ Digital Innovation
