I have been entrusted with a secret so sweet and so innocent that my heart can hardly bear it. How lovely it is to hold a secret - how special it is to be the one it has been shared with.
It's my eldest daughter's secret. When she wants to tell me more about her secret, she holds back my hair and whispers in my ear - then she pulls away and looks at me with pure delight. Her eyes sparkle like sunlight on a pool of water, and her cheeks are as flushed as a robin's.
How big a Mother's heart must be to hold all the secrets of her children! How wise she must be to know which are the ones that she cannot keep! How strong she must be when she hears a secret that she knows will cause her child pain! How excited she must be when those secrets can be shared! I hope to be the treasurer of many of my girls' secrets as they grow. I know that some of them I will have to share with their Dad, the ones that make me worry over them, or fear for them, but the rest I will keep safely in my heart.
Thank you, my love, for sharing.
Be able to confide your innermost secrets to your mother and your innermost fears to your father.
