I love the tiny feet of my daughters - they're soft, round and perfect. Those little feet have so far to go, so many kilometers to travel. As individuals, our girls have such amazing adventures to embark on and I will do my best to never hold them back, remembering always that their lives and loves are their own to discover. I will guide them as best as I can, I will love them with all of my heart and I will encourage them to be the people they want to be.

Neil Pasricha: The 3 A's of awesome | Video on TED.com

Neil Pasricha: The 3 A's of awesome | Video on TED.com

I listened to this today - with great interest, alternating between a smile on my face and goosebumps on my arms.

It's so obvious and it's so easy, but sometimes it's so difficult to do. Sometimes a day has been so crap that you don't notice the little things - those little things that would easily make you smile if you were in a better mood - or, if you were aware of your thoughts and could therefore consciously switch from a bad thought to a good one. And it really can be that easy - it takes practice and sometimes it just doesn't seem possible - but try it and you'll find that it really is like flipping a switch and as you move from a bad thought to a better thought (doesn't necessarily have to be good - just better), your emotions change accordingly.

So look out for the cup of water your daughter places next to your bed in case you get thirsty at night - and call that awesome. Take note of the way your child runs to the door to greet you when you get home - and call that awesome. Remember the email a client sent to thank you for your dedication - and call that awesome. Thank the friend who dropped a chocolate on your desk - and call that awesome. Dream of a goodnight kiss from your lover - that's definitely awesome. Dig in the mud with your children when you get home - and let that experience be awesome - because it is.

Be aware of the awesome things and awesome things will fill your days.

I know, it sounds juvenile and silly and simplistic - but think of children; juvenile, silly, simplistic - and how do they feel? Awesome :-)

  2. Eeeek, I'm so embarrassed!
Thanks Nicki, I started it so long ago and really used it as a place just to vent but your blog was one that inspired me to show a little more interest and I'm enjoying playing around again, although blogspot is somewhat frustrating. I've spent ages trying to figure out why the link I created links to the video in my post but won't actually allow it to be seen.. baby steps! ;-)
